Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-13

Screenius is a local screen and audio recorder that puts user privacy first. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it handles it.

1) Data Collection

Screenius does not send any user data to our servers. The app has no networked service of any kind. All recordings, settings, and metadata stay on your device.

For users on the free tier, Screenius shows ads through Google AdMob and uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand app usage and measure ad performance. These services may collect and share with Google your advertising ID, approximate location (derived from your IP address), and in-app interaction events, for advertising and analytics purposes. Pro subscribers see no ads. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you are asked for consent before any ads or measurement begin. Your recordings and personal files always stay on your device.

2) Permissions and Their Uses

Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): used to capture audio during voice recording and during screen recording sessions. Only active while you have a recording in progress. A persistent notification is always displayed while microphone capture is active.

Camera (CAMERA): used by the facecam feature to overlay the front-camera image onto your screen recording when you enable it. No camera access outside of recording.

Foreground Services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, MEDIA_PROJECTION, CAMERA, MICROPHONE, SPECIAL_USE, DATA_SYNC): screen recording, audio recording, facecam, and the floating control bubble run as foreground services so Android does not suspend them during background operation. A visible notification is always shown while recording.

Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): used by the floating control bubble so you can control recording from inside other apps. The bubble is hidden when you are not recording.

Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): used to display the persistent recording-status notification (recording / paused).

3) Data Storage

Recordings (.mp4, .m4a, .wav, .aac, etc.) are written via the Storage Access Framework to the folder you choose. That folder stays on your device; we have no access to it.

App settings (resolution, FPS, bitrate, language, theme, etc.) are stored locally in Android AsyncStorage. The data is not encrypted; it contains no personally-identifiable information (PII).

Audio recording metadata (bitrate, sample rate, noise-cancellation choice) is also stored in local AsyncStorage.

4) Third-Party Services

Sentry (crash reporting): When the app hits an unexpected error, anonymous error tracking data (stack trace, device model, Android version) is sent to us via Sentry. This service is active only when a Sentry DSN is configured in the app; when active, it does NOT send your IP address, a user identifier, or any recording content. See Sentry's privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/

RevenueCat (subscription management): Screenius uses RevenueCat to receive subscription receipts from Google Play and to power the "Restore Purchases" feature. RevenueCat receives an anonymous device-generated user ID, the Google Play transaction ID for the purchase, the subscription tier, and its expiration date. It does not receive your name, email, or any other personal identifier. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/.

Google Play Billing (payment processing): Pro subscriptions are sold through Google Play Billing. When you start or restore a subscription, Google handles the payment transaction directly and receives the information required to process it (your Google account, payment method, country, and the product purchased). Screenius never sees your payment details. See Google Play's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

5) Children's Privacy

Screenius is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the app and ask a parent or guardian to record on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from any user (children or otherwise) because we do not collect data at all.

6) Legal Responsibility

Screenius is designed to record your own device's screen and audio. Recording audio or video of other people without their consent may be illegal in your jurisdiction. You are solely responsible for the content you record; the app is only a tool.

Do not record people without consent and do not use the app for covert surveillance. Such use violates Google Play policy and most likely your local law.

7) Data Deletion

Because all recordings live on your device, you can delete them at any time from inside the app or via your device file manager. To clear app settings, uninstall and reinstall the app.

8) Policy Updates

If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date above will change. We will display an in-app notice for any significant change.
